Underwater Adventure Art (For children ages 5 and up)
Have you always wondered what it would be like to journey to the kingdom beneath the sea—befriend colorful fish, discover sunken treasure? In this class you will learn how to combine drawing and photographic collage to create images exploring those underwater places you have always dreamed of visiting. This workshop celebrates Multnomah County Libraries “Make A Splash” theme for summer 2010. This workshop will be offered at two different locations during the month of July. These workshops are made possible by generous support from the Library Foundation, and are free of charge to participants.

Celebrating Rites of Passage
Are you looking for a creative way to celebrate a marriage or the birth of a new baby? Have you recently lost a love one and want to honor them through preserving their memory? Learn how to combine reproductions of personal photographs with painting and drawing to create original art. Finished pieces make wonderful gifts.
Optional: Bring reproductions of personal photographs to incorporate into your project. It is not necessary to bring personal materials in order to participate.

SPECIAL EVENT: Family Heirloom Arts Booth at the Oregon Statewide Biennial Genealogy Conference
Family Heirloom Arts will host a booth featuring sample heirloom books in the vendors’ area at the Summer Genealogical Festival. Lisa Kagan will be available to answer questions on how to get started turning your genealogical research into an illustrated heirloom book.

Creating A Legacy, Exploring the Power of Stories
Join Lisa Kagan, featured contributor of the recently released My Words Are Gonna Linger, The Art of Personal History, as she shares her own process in uncovering her family history and creating an illustrated family heirloom book. She will offer tips for getting started with creating your own illustrated family heirloom book. Participants will explore how to conduct oral history interviews, organize and preserve their family photo collection, write and illustrate their book. Personal History projects are a wonderful way to preserve your family stories, honor your ancestors, deepen your understanding of your relationship with your own life, and share the wisdom and experiences of the past with future generations.
