My artistic journey began before I could talk, painting life-size paper mache birds with my dad at our home in Virginia. When I was a teenager I spent long hours experimenting in our make shift darkroom with my friends. As a college student, I merged writing with painting and photography to create a book illustrating my grandfather's immigration story from Russia to the United States. My language of multi-media expression has evolved in the last few years as my spirit of curiosity and passion for wild places catalyzed my move to the west coast.
My journeys as a traveler have deepened my reverence for the natural world, its simple gifts and infinite wisdom of design. My work in art therapy and art education has affirmed my belief in the transformative nature of the creative process to heal, empower, challenge, inform, and awaken the human spirit. In our current global climate wrought with political manipulation, environmental degradation, religious prejudice, greed and violence, I believe creative collaboration is essential for the next phase of human evolution. Together we can deepen our compassion and inspire each other to become the change we want to be in the world. – Lisa Kagan
