OPAL CREEK

One day can be long enough to touch a thousand stars
years upon end will not be long enough
to savor your unfolding
with each breath
I simultaneously move towards and away from
the pinnacle of my origin
I crave my roots like an old tree
I crave the sky like a new bird
in the mornings, amidst the fog
I desire to dissolve into nothingness
to feel my bones mingle with the salt of the earth
some days I could just float off
make my home on a warm rock
at the mouth of a bellowing sea cave...
but today, I will lay down in the tall grass of this crazy life
and with a breath of thanks,
rejoice that it is my own.
